After some careless play in the Sawtry FC defense, Novak Magazin kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Eddy Orchard. The Sawtry FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Eddy Orchard should have stopped the shot. Radmilo Milinić showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bobby Crocker in the 7th minute of the match. If Dobrosav Trešnjić had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Croston United's zone, Bobby Crocker stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Radmilo Milinić came out of the goal and Bobby Crocker tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 16 played minutes Sawtry FC got a freekick which was hit by Craig Swallow. After 18 minutes, Vukadin Laličić mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Croston United and the Sawtry FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 18th match minute, Croston United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vukadin Laličić to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Croston United getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Novak Magazin hit a great ball. After 26 played minutes Sawtry FC got a freekick which was hit by Jo Cunningham. In the 26th minute of the match Peđa Krajinović sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Eddy Orchard skillfully saved the ball. Sawtry FC's Russell Sewell got a good chance for a goal in the 30th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bobby Crocker in the 32nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Radmilo Milinić prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a rather tough play, Sawtry FC's Craig Swallow got a free kick in the 33rd minute. Novak Magazin could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 35th minute of the match, but Eddy Orchard made a huge save. Radmilo Milinić took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Russell Sewell, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Novak Magazin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The audience was convinced that Dobrosav Trešnjić's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Eddy Orchard was relentless in the 43rd minute of the game. In the last second Eddy Orchard throw himself and got hold of the ball when Dobrosav Trešnjić in the 44thth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. After a rather tough play, Sawtry FC's Jo Cunningham got a free kick in the 44th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Dobrosav Trešnjić in the 53rd minute of play forced Sawtry FC's goalkeeper Eddy Orchard to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 54th match minute, Sawtry FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lennie Leighton to maneuver through the defense. Croston United's Radmilo Milinić played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bobby Crocker in the 63rd minute of play. Croston United's Dobrosav Trešnjić got a good chance for a goal in the 68th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Russell Sewell got free with Radmilo Milinić in the 71st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Sawtry FC's Eddy Orchard played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Novak Magazin in the 73rd minute of play. When Croston United's Novak Magazin in the 77th minute got a chance for a shot 77th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Sawtry FC's goalie prevented a goal. In the 84th minute, Russell Sewell ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Radmilo Milinić was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. Croston United were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
