Cockburnspath AFC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ayr the free kick. After 5 played minutes Cockburnspath AFC got a freekick which was hit by Walter Kinnell. 8 minutes into the match, Cockburnspath AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Sid Gorrie came free, but Brian Laidlaw reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Donald Stalker scored 0-1 in the 10th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Euan Ellis, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Josh Dyce sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Andrew Dawson's late challenge caught a Ayr's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Andrew Dawson helped the player get up and apologised. George McGruder charged in rather forcefully in the 26th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed George McGruder the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 26 played minutes Ayr got a freekick which was hit by George McGruder. Fergus Gorrie sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Sid Gorrie struck a weak shot in the 34th minute. Brian Laidlaw didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ayr. Sam Murdoch kicked well hit freekick during the 35th minute of the match. 40 minutes into the match, Cockburnspath AFC's goalkeeper Brian Laidlaw had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Josh Dyce. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
