Match Report

Ayr Park
Spectators: 35 (Terracing: 27, Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0)
Ayr's Sid Gorrie started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Stewart McKinnell sent away a hard shot on goal in the 5th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 7th minute, Stewart McKinnell got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Ayr's zone, Wal McKean stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Euan Ellis came out of the goal and Wal McKean tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ayr's Sid Gorrie got a good chance for a goal in the 26th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Josh Dyce came free with the goalkeeper in the 27th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Barry Scott could save by the left post. Josh Dyce received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Barry Scott tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sid Gorrie in the 32nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Barry Scott saved Leverburgh FC from getting behind. If Wal McKean had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sid Gorrie sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 39th minute, Ayr's Sid Gorrie ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Barry Scott. Barry Scott yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Stewart McKinnell was the one to do the kick off. In the 52nd minute Josh Dyce shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Barry Scott saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 53 minutes into the game, Edward McMurdo was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Leverburgh FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ayr the free kick. In the 56th match minute, Leverburgh FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nicholas Paton to maneuver through the defense. Stevie Harold took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 58th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Barry Scott. Leverburgh FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Euan Ellis made a fantastic save in the 62nd minute, when Darren Noble sent off a good shot on target. After 63 played minutes Ayr got a freekick which was hit by Charles Kellie. When Ayr's Sid Gorrie in the 66th minute got a chance for a shot 66th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Leverburgh FC's goalie prevented a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Josh Dyce in the 67th minute of play forced Leverburgh FC's goalkeeper Barry Scott to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 70th match minute, Ayr was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by George McGruder to maneuver through the defense. 74 minutes into the match, Ayr's goal looked a bit too open when Edward McMurdo came free, but Euan Ellis reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 77th minute, Leverburgh FC's Wal McKean ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Euan Ellis. Euan Ellis yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. Leverburgh FC's Stewart McKinnell got a good chance for a goal in the 82nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 85 minutes, Tim McInally mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Leverburgh FC and the Ayr players grew even worse after the yellow card. Ayr's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Stevie Harold in the 87th minute. Daniel Sandison tried to clear up in front of the goal, but didn't succeed and rather the ball rolled into the own goal to the right of a despaired Barry Scott. An unnecessary self made goal, 2-1 in the 88th minute. Josh Dyce fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Barry Scott having to interfere. Leverburgh FC's Barry Scott played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sid Gorrie in the 97th minute of play. Leverburgh FC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
