The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 10th minute of the game. One of Perth:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Saltcoats:s goal. The referee gave Saltcoats a penalty, 11 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Marcus Duffy, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Perth's Bob McIlvain. 0-1. Arthur Leitch received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Bob McIlvain tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jacob Denoon showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Simon McNaughton, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. In the 21st minute, Lloyd Davies reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Jacob Denoon. The goal made the score 1-1. Nicholas Clyne fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bob McIlvain having to interfere. Arthur Leitch recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 39th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Saltcoats's Arthur Leitch in the 43rd minute got a chance for a shot 43rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Perth's goalie prevented a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lloyd Davies in the 44th minute of play forced Saltcoats's goalkeeper Jacob Denoon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Wayne Beaton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jacob Denoon having to interfere. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Arthur Leitch was the one to do the kick off. Jacob Denoon took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lloyd Davies, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 63rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Saltcoats's goalkeeper Jacob Denoon, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 64 minutes into the match, Perth's Wayne Beaton sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jacob Denoon narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Jacob Denoon showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lloyd Davies, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. The Saltcoats fans' excitement grew in the 83rd match minute when Saltcoats's Nicholas Clyne looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene.
