After 5 minutes, Jordan Colville mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Aberdeen FC and the Insch City players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Insch City booed when Aberdeen FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jordan Colville didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 14th minute, Robbie Georgeson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Marc Howison took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Willie Hill, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jack Pearson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Ken Boyes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Insch City's zone, Willie Hill stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marc Howison came out of the goal and Willie Hill tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the match had gone on for 27 minutes, David McCraw put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Ken Boyes. Marc Howison made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Willie Hill in the 31st minute of play. If Jack Pearson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tyler Comrie struck a weak shot in the 37th minute. Marc Howison didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Aberdeen FC. A collision led to Insch City getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. David McCraw hit a great ball. If Tyler Comrie had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by David McCraw in the 47th minute of play forced Aberdeen FC's goalkeeper Ken Boyes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell David McCraw to make the kick off. Insch City's Marc Howison played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Willie Hill in the 55th minute of play. The supporters of Aberdeen FC booed when Insch City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lloyd Kinnieson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Aberdeen FC's Tyler Comrie got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 64 minutes into the match, David McCraw dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Ken Boyes, 0-2. If Willie Hill had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lloyd Kinnieson hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. 73 minutes into the match, Insch City's goal looked a bit too open when Willie Hill came free, but Marc Howison reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The Insch City supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Insch City would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
