Munro O'Shaig fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 5th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Charles Buntain having to interfere. In the 23rd minute, Earlston FC's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Munro O'Shaig fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Adrian Stringer in the 26th minute of play forced Bathgate's goalkeeper Martin Robinson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Frankie Barr fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Martin Robinson having to interfere. Earlston FC's Adrian Stringer got a good chance for a goal in the 30th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Martin Robinson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Frankie Barr, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Adrian Stringer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Darren McAlister was the one to do the kick off. Charles Buntain showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Munro O'Shaig, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. In the 54th minute, Earlston FC's Jake McComas seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Jake McComas the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Earlston FC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Jake McComas had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In a very dangerous position, a player in Earlston FC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 53rd minute. Penalty! With a little luck, Bathgate's Martin Robinson got control of the ball when Danny Bowmaker tried to sneak it across the goal line. Charles Buntain made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Munro O'Shaig in the 71st minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 77th minute, Adrian Stringer managed to get in a good position for a shot. Earlston FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Adrian Stringer was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Martin Robinson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Declan McCaul hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. If Darren McAlister had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The long shot by Taylor Matheson in the 85th minute really tested Martin Robinson's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Darren McAlister received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Charles Buntain tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Charles Buntain showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Darren McAlister, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. Charles Buntain made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Munro O'Shaig in the 95th minute of play. 97 minutes into the match, Earlston FC's goal looked a bit too open when Darren McAlister came free, but Charles Buntain reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Bathgate fans cheered their team off the field, for while Earlston FC had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
