Roy Day came out of the goal and Elliot Yuille tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Wal McIlvain during the 22nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of celtic fc booed when Penicuik FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wal McIlvain didn't get a good kick on the ball. Shane Broom received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Roy Day tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some careless play in the Penicuik FC defense, Shane Broom kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Roy Day. The Penicuik FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Roy Day should have stopped the shot. After 33 played minutes Penicuik FC got a freekick which was hit by Jim Gilchrist. celtic fc's Eddie Roy got a good chance for a goal in the 33rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Elliot Yuille in the 35th minute of play forced Penicuik FC's goalkeeper Roy Day to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Shane Broom to make the kick off. After 60 played minutes, Penicuik FC's Jim Gilchrist shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Rick Ogilvie came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Penicuik FC reached it. Penicuik FC's Roy Day played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Shane Broom in the 62nd minute of play. celtic fc's Shane Broom got a good chance for a goal in the 64th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Rick Ogilvie showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Phil Summers, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. In the 71st minute, Shane Broom fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. After 75 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for celtic fc! After 79 played minutes celtic fc got a freekick which was hit by Harold Coultard. After a defensive mix-up in celtic fc's zone, Phil Summers stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rick Ogilvie came out of the goal and Phil Summers tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Shane Broom in the 85th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Roy Day saved Penicuik FC from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in celtic fc's zone, Phil Summers stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rick Ogilvie came out of the goal and Phil Summers tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 90th minute of the match Will Elliott shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Roy Day showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Penicuik FC's Phil Summers got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. celtic fc walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
