With a little luck, Ullapool's Nicky Malcolm got control of the ball when Blair Georgeson tried to sneak it across the goal line. Terence Bowers received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 7th minute. Nicky Malcolm tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Ullapool's Alisdair Gardiner in the 11th minute got a chance for a shot 11th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Montrose FC's goalie prevented a goal. Terence Bowers might have been able to make a better finish in the 13th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nicky Malcolm. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Terence Bowers ran back to his position shaking his head. Dylan Constable struck a weak shot in the 17th minute. Declan McLardy didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ullapool. After 18 minutes, David McNeilage mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Montrose FC and the Ullapool players grew even worse after the yellow card. Alisdair Gardiner struck a weak shot in the 19th minute. Declan McLardy didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ullapool. Declan McLardy made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alisdair Gardiner in the 21st minute of play. Alisdair Gardiner fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Declan McLardy having to interfere. Davie McGilroy hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. Terence Bowers sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Ullapool's zone, Terence Bowers stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nicky Malcolm came out of the goal and Terence Bowers tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Declan McLardy took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alisdair Gardiner, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 42nd minute, Rory McMurrich hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 47 minutes into the match, Ullapool's goal looked a bit too open when Terence Bowers came free, but Nicky Malcolm reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Terence Bowers to strike the kick off in the second half. Nicky Malcolm made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Blair Georgeson in the 56th minute of play. If Terence Bowers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When Alisdair Gardiner came up free with the goalie in the 64th minute, the Ullapool fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alisdair Gardiner couldn't finish the play. Montrose FC's Terence Bowers got a good chance for a goal in the 68th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Nicky Malcolm showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Terence Bowers, who was totally free with the ball in the 71st minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Blair Georgeson in the 73rd minute of play forced Ullapool's goalkeeper Nicky Malcolm to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alisdair Gardiner could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 75th minute of the match, but Declan McLardy made a huge save. Terence Bowers sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Brian McCook charged in rather forcefully in the 79th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Brian McCook the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Ullapool's Brian McCook got a free kick in the 79th minute. The supporters of Montrose FC booed when Ullapool was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lucas McKee didn't get a good kick on the ball. Montrose FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Davie McGilroy was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Montrose FC's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
