The supporters of SC Mata booed when Alpande was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Delfim Ribeiro didn't get a good kick on the ball. Cristóvão Rodrigues fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Afonso Borges having to interfere. A collision led to SC Mata getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Gustavo Assis hit a great ball. Cristóvão Rodrigues sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Afonso Borges made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristóvão Rodrigues in the 38th minute of play. Cristóvão Rodrigues received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Afonso Borges tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Delfim Ribeiro kicked well hit freekick during the 43rd minute of the match. In the 44th minute the ball was on its way in behind Alpande's goalkeeper Afonso Borges, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The audience was convinced that Cristóvão Rodrigues's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Afonso Borges was relentless in the 79th minute of the game. In the 89th match minute, SC Mata was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sebastião Santos to maneuver through the defense. SC Mata's Amadeu Leal played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Domingos Paredes in the 93rd minute of play. The SC Mata players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
