Carlos Amaro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jorge Faria having to interfere. When Mendo's Rui Figueiredo in the 5th minute got a chance for a shot 5th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye SC Lagarelhos's goalie prevented a goal. When Simão Vieira came up free with the goalie in the 6th minute, the SC Lagarelhos fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Simão Vieira couldn't finish the play. Gil Garcia's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 12thth minute, Mariano Leão skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Rui Figueiredo in the 13th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jorge Faria saved SC Lagarelhos from getting behind. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gil Garcia got free with Mariano Leão in the 17th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When Carlos Amaro came up free with the goalie in the 21st minute, the Mendo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Carlos Amaro couldn't finish the play. With a little luck, Mendo's Mariano Leão got control of the ball when Gil Garcia tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 35 minutes of play, Mendo's Carlos Amaro made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Jorge Faria was left in no man's land by his defense there! An unexpectedly hard shot by Carlos Amaro in the 42nd minute of play forced SC Lagarelhos's goalkeeper Jorge Faria to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 45 minutes into the match, Rui Figueiredo had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jorge Faria. SC Lagarelhos's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Rui Figueiredo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. After the first half Mendo were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Rui Figueiredo to make the kick off. Simão Vieira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Mariano Leão tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Mendo's zone, Simão Vieira stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mariano Leão came out of the goal and Simão Vieira tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Mendo's Emílio Maia got a free kick in the 58th minute. Rui Figueiredo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Jorge Faria tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 64 played minutes SC Lagarelhos got a freekick which was hit by Filipe Assis. Carlos Amaros short, quick shot in the 67thth minute got Jorge Faria to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Rui Figueiredo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jorge Faria having to interfere. After having played for 72 minutes, Carlos Amaro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mendo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Carlos Amaro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to SC Lagarelhos getting a freekick after 73 minutes play. Pedro Reis hit a great ball. When SC Lagarelhos's Simão Vieira in the 88th minute got a chance for a shot 88th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Mendo's goalie prevented a goal. Jorge Faria made an important save on a dangerous shot by Carlos Amaro in the 94th minute. Mendo's Mariano Leão played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Simão Vieira in the 96th minute of play. The Mendo supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Mendo would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
