The audience thought a goal was coming when André Lopes got free with José Torres in the 15th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Armindo Castro kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. 23 minutes into the match, Gibraltar FC's Lúcio Tavares sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Rui Magalhães narrowly saved just below the crossbar. José Torres took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jaime Resende, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. André Lopes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Torres having to interfere. André Lopess short, quick shot in the 32ndth minute got José Torres to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 33rd minute Jaime Resende shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but José Torres saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Gibraltar FC getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Armindo Castro hit a great ball. Joaquim Vaz was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 37th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. In the 38th match minute, Gibraltar FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lúcio Gueifão to maneuver through the defense. If Lúcio Tavares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Jaime Resende was the one to do the kick off.
