In the 4th minute, Eusébio Gaspar got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a rather tough play, Mondego FC's Óscar Esteves got a free kick in the 7th minute. Cristiano Nogueira made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Óscar Esteves in the 9th minute of play. Cristiano Nogueira made a fantastic save in the 11th minute, when Sérgio Machado sent off a good shot on target. In the 12th minute the ball was on its way in behind Benagouro FC's goalkeeper Cristiano Nogueira, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 18 minutes Mondego FC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Jorge Pedroso who took care of the corner kick. A collision led to Mondego FC getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Sérgio Machado hit a great ball. David Marques sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling David Marques in the 22nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Viriato Matias prevented the ball from getting in the gole. With an all-out effort, Mondego FC's Cristiano Nogueira threw himself towards the right post 24 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Óscar Esteves, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. When Sérgio Machado came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the Mondego FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sérgio Machado couldn't finish the play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Óscar Esteves in the 32nd minute of play forced Benagouro FC's goalkeeper Cristiano Nogueira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Mondego FC booed when Benagouro FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Joaquim Castro didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. David Marques was the one to do the kick off. 54 minutes into the game, Ricardo Leite was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Mondego FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Benagouro FC the free kick. After 54 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Mondego FC! In the 56th minute there was a penalty for Benagouro FC. Jorge Pedroso stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Viriato Matias. 0-1. If David Marques had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the match had gone on for 90 minutes, Eusébio Gaspar took a quick shot and it went in 1-2 without a chance for Viriato Matias to make any attempt to save it. Benagouro FC's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
