Fatacos's supporters rose to their feet, but João Moura was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rafael Resende breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 17th minute Alexandre Faria shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lourenço Maia saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rafael Resende showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fábio Pacheco in the 19th minute of the match. Rui Andrade sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. João Moura fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rafael Resende having to interfere. After some careless play in the Fatacos defense, Alexandre Faria kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Lourenço Maia. The Fatacos fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Lourenço Maia should have stopped the shot. Cristiano Leiria's late challenge caught a SC Sepins's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Cristiano Leiria helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Fatacos getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Cristiano Leiria hit a great ball. In the 32nd minute of the match Miguel Viana shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Lourenço Maia showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. 38 minutes into the game, Fatacos's João Moura nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Rafael Resende made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Rui Andrade to make the kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Rui Andrade got free with Lourenço Maia in the 52nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 53 minutes into the match, Fatacos's goalkeeper Lourenço Maia had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Alexandre Faria. The referee ignored Fatacos's protests and gave Luís Moutinho a yellow card for diving instead. After 86 minutes, David Assunção mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the SC Sepins and the Fatacos players grew even worse after the yellow card.
