When Lamares's Fernando Jesus in the 9th minute got a chance for a shot 9th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Candieiros FC's goalie prevented a goal. Rui Matos came out of the goal in the 12th minute to try and stop a shot by Lamares's Fernando Jesus. But to his dismay, Fernando Jesus quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Rui Matos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fernando Jesus in the 17th minute of the match. In the 18th minute João Domingues shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rui Matos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Artur Monteiro hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. When Gustavo Assunção fell near the penalty area in the 25th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Candieiros FC's protests and gave Gustavo Assunção a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Candieiros FC getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Gustavo Assunção hit a great ball. Lamares's Fernando Jesus got a good chance for a goal in the 26th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. João Domingues received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Rui Matos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fernando Jesus sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Manuel Aleixo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Joaquim Coimbra tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 36 minutes into the match, Lamares's Fernando Jesus sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Rui Matos narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If João Domingues had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. João Domingues was the one to do the kick off. Joaquim Coimbra showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rogério Soares in the 55th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 58th minute, Manuel Aleixo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Candieiros FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Manuel Aleixo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Joaquim Coimbra breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Rogério Soares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 65 played minutes Lamares got a freekick which was hit by Catarino Santarém. In the 69th minute, Augusto Coimbra hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Fernando Jesus had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. João Domingues sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Joaquim Coimbra took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Manuel Aleixo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Candieiros FC's zone, Fernando Jesus stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rui Matos came out of the goal and Fernando Jesus tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 83rd minute, Manuel Aleixo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Joaquim Coimbra stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Manuel Aleixo's shot from short distance in the 92nd minute. When Manuel Aleixo came up free with the goalie in the 94th minute, the Candieiros FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Manuel Aleixo couldn't finish the play. The Lamares supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Lamares would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
