When SC Famalicao's António Assis in the 6th minute got a chance for a shot 6th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Valinhos's goalie prevented a goal. When the match had gone on for 9 minutes, António Assis put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of André Gomes. Pedro Garcia struck a weak shot in the 11th minute. Lúcio Paiva didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Valinhos. In the 18th minute António Assis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but André Gomes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. André Gomes came out of the goal in the 19th minute to try and stop a shot by SC Famalicao's António Assis. But to his dismay, António Assis quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. In the 22nd minute, Paulo Vaz made a precise shot to the right of André Gomes. Valinhos's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-3. When Pedro Garcia came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the Valinhos fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Pedro Garcia couldn't finish the play. In the 30th match minute, Valinhos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jaime Oliveira to maneuver through the defense. Miguel Luz could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 33rd minute of the match, but Lúcio Paiva made a huge save. António Assis might have been able to make a better finish in the 41st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over André Gomes. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. António Assis ran back to his position shaking his head. After a rather tough play, SC Famalicao's Amadeu Borges got a free kick in the 43rd minute. 48 minutes into the match, Valinhos's Miguel Luz sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Lúcio Paiva narrowly saved just below the crossbar.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for António Assis to strike the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Valinhos getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Gabriel Alves hit a great ball. After some careless play in the SC Famalicao defense, Pedro Garcia kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Lúcio Paiva. The SC Famalicao fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Lúcio Paiva should have stopped the shot. After 70 minutes, Eusébio Martins made it 1-5 with a short kick to the right side. Valinhos's André Gomes tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. After having played for 75 minutes, Pedro Garcia managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Valinhos's supporters crossed their fingers, but Pedro Garcia was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 77th match minute, SC Famalicao was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Duarte Barros to maneuver through the defense. Lúcio Paiva showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pedro Garcia, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. Valinhos's André Gomes proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 85th minute of the match, managed to save Valinhos from getting a goal against them. André Gomes stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of António Melo's shot from short distance in the 87th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 92nd minute, Miguel Luz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Valinhos's supporters rose to their feet, but Miguel Luz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lúcio Paiva breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 93rd match minute, SC Famalicao was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by António Melo to maneuver through the defense. Eusébio Martins could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 96th minute of the match, but André Gomes made a huge save. The SC Famalicao supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing SC Famalicao would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
