With an all-out effort, Tom's Gaspar Nascimento threw himself towards the right post 8 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Jacinto Lima, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Cláudio Gomes made a great header on Tom's corner, it was just that Marcelim FC's Gaspar Nascimento managed to reach the ball for a save. André Porto in the 26thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Jacinto Lima fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gaspar Nascimento having to interfere. Gaspar Nascimento showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jacinto Lima, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. The supporters of Marcelim FC booed when Tom was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 48 match minutes in a wonderful position. Duarte Reis didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Tom players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Marcelim FC were winning 0-1.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Jacinto Lima to strike the kick off in the second half. Paulo Amaral kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. It was a well-played corner which Pedro Nunes managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. Gaspar Nascimento was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Bernardo Vaz fell near the penalty area in the 68th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Tom's protests and gave Bernardo Vaz a yellow card for diving instead. During the 84th minute of the match Rui Reis completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Rui Reis a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. After 87 minutes, Jacinto Lima mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Tom and the Marcelim FC players grew even worse after the yellow card.
