Portel FC's Afonso Queirós played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pedro Pereira in the 12th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in SC Mascarenhas's zone, Armindo Moutinho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. When Domingos Pacheco came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the Portel FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Domingos Pacheco couldn't finish the play. After 27 played minutes SC Mascarenhas got a freekick which was hit by Jacinto Borba. Armindo Moutinho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the match had gone on for 30 minutes, Armindo Moutinho took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Bruno Rodrigues to make any attempt to save it. The audience thought a goal was coming when Domingos Pacheco got free with Bruno Rodrigues in the 34th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Domingos Leão struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Afonso Queirós didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SC Mascarenhas. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Pedro Pereira stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 55th minute, Portel FC's Hugo Cabral seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Hugo Cabral the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Portel FC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Hugo Cabral had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. After 54 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Portel FC! The referee gave SC Mascarenhas a penalty, 57 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Paulo Figueiredo, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Portel FC's Afonso Queirós. 1-1. Pedro Pereira blasted a shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Afonso Queirós having to make a save. In the 62nd match minute, Portel FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Daniel Santarém to maneuver through the defense. In the 86th minute Pedro Pereira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Afonso Queirós saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 89 minutes, Domingos Pacheco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Portel FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Domingos Pacheco was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Portel FC's zone, Domingos Leão stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Afonso Queirós came out of the goal and Domingos Leão tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Domingos Leão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The SC Mascarenhas players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
