Pernelhas's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Laurentim the free kick. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Laurentim. Domingos Moura walked up to take care of the penalty kick. Catarino Lopes charged in rather forcefully in the 35th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Catarino Lopes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Pernelhas's supporters crossed their fingers, but Joel Rocha was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Afonso Luz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Gil Mendes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Rui Santarém stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Bento Gaspar's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Pedro Pacheco read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 54th minute of play. When the match had gone on for 54 minutes, Bento Gaspar took a quick shot and it went in 0-1 without a chance for Pedro Pacheco to make any attempt to save it. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Laurentim walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
