Joaquim Leal made a fantastic save in the 9th minute, when Sérgio Magalhães sent off a good shot on target. Joel Cunha hit a great freekick 10 minutes into the match. After 12 minutes of play, SC Marmelos's António Guerreiro made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Hélder Machado was left in no man's land by his defense there! SC Atenor's Sérgio Magalhães got a good chance for a goal in the 18th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. SC Marmelos's Joaquim Leal played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Basílio Lopes in the 20th minute of play. Ricardo Fernandes charged in rather forcefully in the 26th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ricardo Fernandes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. 26 minutes into the game, one of SC Marmelos:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Cristiano Pinheiro shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Tomás Queirós sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 34 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for SC Atenor! The referee gave SC Marmelos a penalty, 36 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Ricardo Fernandes, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of SC Atenor's Hélder Machado. 0-2. After a defensive mix-up in SC Marmelos's zone, Sérgio Magalhães stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Joaquim Leal came out of the goal and Sérgio Magalhães tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 44 minutes into the game, José Sousa was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SC Marmelos's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave SC Atenor the free kick. A collision led to SC Marmelos getting a freekick after 44 minutes play. José Sousa hit a great ball. Heitor Carvalho charged in rather forcefully in the 47th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Alexandre Mota to make the kick off. In the 51st minute, Sérgio Magalhães hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 53rd minute Sérgio Magalhães shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joaquim Leal saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alexandre Mota in the 58th minute of play forced SC Atenor's goalkeeper Hélder Machado to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in SC Atenor's zone, Alexandre Mota stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hélder Machado came out of the goal and Alexandre Mota tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when António Guerreiro got free with Hélder Machado in the 72nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 74th minute, Basílio Lopes left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The SC Atenor fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. If Sérgio Magalhães had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sérgio Magalhães might have been able to make a better finish in the 87th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Joaquim Leal. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Sérgio Magalhães ran back to his position shaking his head. SC Marmelos were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over SC Atenor's much stronger midfield.
