Oliveira Lima showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carlos Borba, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. Carlos Borba fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Oliveira Lima having to interfere. Oliveira Lima took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Carlos Borba, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Pianos's Oliveira Lima played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alfredo Henriques in the 19th minute of play. In the 21st minute Alfredo Henriques shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Oliveira Lima saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Fial booed when Pianos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Oliveira Neves didn't get a good kick on the ball. 23 minutes into the match, Fial's Carlos Borba sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Oliveira Lima narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 24th minute Alfredo Henriques shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Oliveira Lima saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Carlos Borba recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 25th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 28th minute Alfredo Henriques shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Oliveira Lima saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In a very dangerous position, a player in Fial fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 43rd minute. Penalty! All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Carlos Borba to make the kick off. Pianos's Oliveira Lima played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Carlos Borba in the 55th minute of play. If Jorge Vale had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 63rd minute, Marco Nunes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Oliveira Lima stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Carlos Borba's shot from short distance in the 65th minute. In the 69th minute Jorge Vale shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but António Azevedo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Pianos booed when Fial was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position. Álvaro Paiva didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jorge Vale sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Pedro Delgado in the 73rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck António Azevedo prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jorge Vale in the 78th minute of play forced Fial's goalkeeper António Azevedo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Pianos's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Carlos Borba 87 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 2-1. The supporters of Fial booed when Pianos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 91 match minutes in a wonderful position. António Cardoso didn't get a good kick on the ball.
