When Fernando Sá fell near the penalty area in the 7th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Caria FC's protests and gave Fernando Sá a yellow card for diving instead. In the 7th minute, one of Caria FC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Caria FC. In the 9th minute there was a penalty for Nogueirinha. José Neves stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Fernando Leiria. 1-0. If Manuel Henriques had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Caria FC's Joaquim Barros in the 21st minute got a chance for a shot 21st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Nogueirinha's goalie prevented a goal. In the 26th minute the ball was on its way in behind Caria FC's goalkeeper Fernando Leiria, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Basílio Gueifão took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Joaquim Barros, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 31st minute, Lúcio Fonseca hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by José Neves during the 37th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 36 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Nogueirinha! 43 minutes into the match, Manuel Henriques had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Basílio Gueifão. Nogueirinha's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Manuel Henriques was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. The Nogueirinha players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Caria FC were winning 1-2.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Eduardo Fonseca stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Nuno Queirós kicked well hit freekick during the 51st minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Caria FC's zone, Eduardo Fonseca stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fernando Leiria came out of the goal and Eduardo Fonseca tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Sebastião Pinho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fernando Leiria having to interfere. Fernando Leiria stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Eduardo Fonseca's shot from short distance in the 68th minute. Rui Aleixo's late challenge caught a Nogueirinha's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Rui Aleixo helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Nogueirinha booed when Caria FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rui Aleixo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Caria FC's Fernando Leiria played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sebastião Pinho in the 72nd minute of play. In the 73rd minute, Eduardo Fonseca left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Nogueirinha fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-3. Nogueirinha's Sebastião Pinho got a good chance for a goal in the 81st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Basílio Gueifão made a fantastic save in the 87th minute, when Manuel Henriques sent off a good shot on target. The audience was convinced that Sebastião Pinho's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Fernando Leiria was relentless in the 89th minute of the game. If Manuel Henriques had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Caria FC had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
