Mesas's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that José Araújo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. David Leite could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 11th minute of the match, but Basílio Pacheco made a huge save. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that David Leite couldn't finish the play. A collision led to Mesas getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Heitor Campos hit a great ball. If José Araújo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. Oliveira Ramos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlos Lopes having to interfere. Jaime Simões's late challenge caught a Mesas's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jaime Simões helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Mesas booed when Coxerro was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Oliveira Ramos showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 3-3.
