Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Afonso Branco in the 11th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Bruno Vaz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Joel Branco sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. When Sandro Setúbal fell near the penalty area in the 19th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Murgido FC's protests and gave Sandro Setúbal a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Murgido FC getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Sandro Setúbal hit a great ball. Luís Lopes's late challenge caught a Atalaia's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Luís Lopes helped the player get up and apologised. In the 23rd match minute, Murgido FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luís Lopes to maneuver through the defense. Atalaia's Cristiano Andrade couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 25th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Murgido FC. After having played for 28 minutes, Afonso Branco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Atalaia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Afonso Branco was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 30 minutes into the match, Atalaia's goalkeeper Joaquim Moreira had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Joel Branco. After a defensive mix-up in Atalaia's zone, Joel Branco stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Joaquim Moreira came out of the goal and Joel Branco tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Joel Branco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Joaquim Moreira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Afonso Branco sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 47th minute the ball was on its way in behind Atalaia's goalkeeper Joaquim Moreira, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Joel Branco to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute, Delfim Setúbal had to leave the field with a concussion. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by António Trindade during the 55th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
