Fernando Coimbra fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Domingos Lopes having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Fábio Lopes got free with Domingos Lopes in the 9th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After having played for 11 minutes, Fernando Coimbra managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SC Mosqueiro's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fernando Coimbra was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Grovas's Lúcio Pedroso got a good chance for a goal in the 14th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 18th minute, Cristiano Vale got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 19 minutes of play, Grovas's Lúcio Pedroso made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Paulo Leite was left in no man's land by his defense there! Paulo Leite showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lúcio Pedroso, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. If Cristiano Vale had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Humberto Coimbra during the 27th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Sebastião Pinheiro walked up to take care of the penalty kick. Domingos Lopes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fábio Lopes in the 43rd minute of the match. Fernando Coimbra recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 47th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Cristiano Vale made a kick off. Eusébio Nogueira charged in rather forcefully in the 89th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The Grovas supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Grovas would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
