The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Sebastião Jesus during the 9th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, SC Fornalhas's Sebastião Jesus got a free kick in the 9th minute. After some careless play in the SC Fornalhas defense, Cândido Figueiredo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Armando Cruz. The SC Fornalhas fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Armando Cruz should have stopped the shot. If Cândido Figueiredo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 18 minutes into the game, João Abreu was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Candelaria FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave SC Fornalhas the free kick. In the 18th minute, João Abreu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Cândido Figueiredo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Armando Cruz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Armando Cruz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Paulo Almeida in the 23rd minute of play. Paulo Almeida sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paulo Almeida in the 32nd minute of play forced SC Fornalhas's goalkeeper Armando Cruz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Paulo Almeida scored 0-3 in the 37th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Armando Cruz, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Raul Magalhães hit a great freekick 43 minutes into the match. Armindo Brito fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Simão Rocha having to interfere. Disappointed in the 0-4 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Armindo Brito was the one to do the kick off. In the 67th minute of the match, Cândido Figueiredo tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Armando Cruz saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Cândido Figueiredo might have been able to make a better finish in the 69th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Armando Cruz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Cândido Figueiredo ran back to his position shaking his head. Cândido Figueiredo blasted a shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Armando Cruz having to make a save. Paulo Almeida might have been able to make a better finish in the 86th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Armando Cruz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Paulo Almeida ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 87th minute, Cândido Figueiredo fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Armando Cruz, passed just outside the right post. Armindo Brito struck a weak shot in the 93rd minute. Simão Rocha didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SC Fornalhas. After a defensive mix-up in Candelaria FC's zone, Armindo Brito stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Simão Rocha came out of the goal and Armindo Brito tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Daniel Barros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Candelaria FC walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
