Rodrigo Vale took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Catarino Setúbal, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Gondemaria booed when SC Matriz was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cláudio Araújo didn't get a good kick on the ball. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Rodrigo Vale showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After a defensive mix-up in SC Matriz's zone, Catarino Setúbal stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rodrigo Vale came out of the goal and Catarino Setúbal tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rodrigo Vale showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sandro Borges, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. Catarino Setúbal took the ball and in the 39 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Rodrigo Vale. Rodrigo Vale dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. 47 minutes into the game, António Miranda was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SC Matriz's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Gondemaria the free kick. In the 47th minute, António Miranda hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After the first half Gondemaria were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Rodrigo Vale showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Catarino Setúbal, who was totally free with the ball in the 54th minute. Sandro Borges received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. Rodrigo Vale tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
