The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Amadeu Pereira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Armando Mendes in the 14th minute of the match. Jacinto Brito fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alberto Leão having to interfere. Alberto Leão made an important save on a dangerous shot by João Borges in the 22nd minute. Jacinto Brito struck a weak shot in the 23rd minute. Alberto Leão didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SC Gondiais. 25 minutes into the match, SC Varzea's goal looked a bit too open when Jacinto Brito came free, but Alberto Leão reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 27thth minute of the game Jacinto Brito who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but SC Varzea's Alberto Leão was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After some careless play in the SC Gondiais defense, Armando Mendes kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Amadeu Pereira. The SC Gondiais fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Amadeu Pereira should have stopped the shot. Fernando Veiga struck a weak shot in the 33rd minute. Amadeu Pereira didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SC Varzea. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jacinto Brito in the 38th minute of play forced SC Varzea's goalkeeper Alberto Leão to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to SC Gondiais getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Diamantino Brito hit a great ball.

SC Gondiais's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Bernardo Tavares in the 53rd minute. The audience was convinced that Jacinto Brito's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Alberto Leão was relentless in the 59th minute of the game. In the 62nd minute, Jacinto Brito made a precise shot to the right of Alberto Leão. SC Varzea's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. SC Varzea were furious when Manuel Machado was red carded, 90 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 89th minute of the game. One of SC Varzea:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of SC Gondiais:s goal. Alberto Leão had in the 92ndth minute some difficulties stopping Bernardo Tavares's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. The supporters of SC Varzea booed when SC Gondiais was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paulo Veiga didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 96th minute, Tomás Pacheco sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and SC Gondiais's Amadeu Pereira didn't even have to move. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
