Montoito FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Delfim Aleixo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jacinto Azevedo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of Montoito FC booed when SC Gateira was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pedro Gaspar didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 20th minute Diogo Barros shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jacinto Azevedo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Montoito FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. After 41 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Montoito FC! Pedro Gaspar walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. After the first half Montoito FC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Delfim Aleixo was the one to do the kick off. Viriato Faria fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alexandre Moniz having to interfere. SC Gateira's Jacinto Azevedo proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 55th minute of the match, managed to save SC Gateira from getting a goal against them.
