Spectators: 32 (Terracing: 25, Seating: 7, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Ricardo Coimbra started the match with the kick off. Júlio Luz's late challenge caught a SC Aveiro's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Júlio Luz helped the player get up and apologised. After 6 played minutes Meles got a freekick which was hit by Júlio Luz. Humberto Trindade took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 10th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Luís Soares. Meles's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Ricardo Coimbra sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ricardo Coimbra recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 20th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 21 minutes into the match, SC Aveiro's Carlos Cunha sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Luís Soares narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 25thth minute of the game Abel Carvalho who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but SC Aveiro's Jorge Gueifão was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Meles's Abel Carvalho got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Carlos Cunha scored 2-0 in the 39th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Luís Soares, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Jorge Gueifão made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lourenço Marques in the 48th minute of play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Lourenço Marques to make the kick off. When José Santarém fell near the penalty area in the 51st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SC Aveiro's protests and gave José Santarém a yellow card for diving instead. In the 51st minute, José Santarém hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Abel Carvalho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Jorge Gueifão tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. SC Aveiro's Jorge Gueifão proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 58th minute of the match, managed to save SC Aveiro from getting a goal against them. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Luís Soares made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ricardo Coimbra in the 72nd minute of play. Meles's Luís Soares played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ricardo Coimbra in the 74th minute of play. If Ricardo Coimbra had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of SC Aveiro booed when Meles was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gonçalo Alves didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 83rd minute, Abel Carvalho managed to get in a good position for a shot. Meles's supporters rose to their feet, but Abel Carvalho was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jorge Gueifão breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a defensive mix-up in SC Aveiro's zone, Lourenço Marques stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jorge Gueifão came out of the goal and Lourenço Marques tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Abel Carvalho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal.
