André Aleixo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luís Borges having to interfere. SC Merlaes's Vítor Simões played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mário Nunes in the 23rd minute of play. After having played for 25 minutes, Bernardo Anjos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SC Merlaes's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bernardo Anjos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Mário Nunes might have been able to make a better finish in the 30th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Vítor Simões. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Mário Nunes ran back to his position shaking his head. Rodrigo Gomes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Luís Borges tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Silves. Carlos Gueifão charged in rather forcefully in the 40th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Carlos Gueifão the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 40th minute, Carlos Gueifão hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Carlos Coelho came up free with the goalie in the 44th minute, the Silves fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Carlos Coelho couldn't finish the play. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The wind increased when Rodrigo Gomes made the kick off in the second half. 57 minutes into the game, André Aleixo cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Luís Borges was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. If Carlos Coelho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute.
