After a rather tough play, Caldas's Simão Abreu got a free kick in the 3rd minute. In the 9th minute, Rodrigo Rodrigues made a precise shot to the right of David Leite. Caldas's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Delfim Gonçalves in the 12th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg David Leite saved Caldas from getting behind. In the 14th match minute, Caldas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vicente Sá to maneuver through the defense. In the 15th minute, Óscar Ramos sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Caldas's David Leite didn't even have to move. The supporters of Populo booed when Caldas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rui Antunes didn't get a good kick on the ball. 17 minutes into the match, Populo's Delfim Gonçalves sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that David Leite narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Alexandre Andrade had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Alexandre Andrade got free with João Maia in the 29th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Delfim Gonçalves made a kick off. If Jorge Silva had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. João Maia showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alexandre Andrade in the 57th minute of the match. 61 minutes had been played when some careless play by Populo's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Miguel Cunha was slow to take the kick. During this time Caldas's players had a chance to rest. 65 minutes into the match, Populo's goal looked a bit too open when Rui Antunes came free, but João Maia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jorge Silva kicked well hit freekick during the 66th minute of the match. In the 67thth minute of the game Delfim Gonçalves who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Caldas's David Leite was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Rodrigo Rodrigues fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without David Leite having to interfere. 80 minutes into the game, Armando Magalhães was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jorge Silva in the 95th minute of play forced Populo's goalkeeper João Maia to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Caldas were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing Populo to leave the ground with a draw.
