The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the game, Nuno Campos cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Pedro Coimbra was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. When Sabino Mendes came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the SC Fervidelas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sabino Mendes couldn't finish the play. Heitor Pedroso fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pedro Coimbra having to interfere. The supporters of Arelho booed when SC Fervidelas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paulo Barcelos didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Sabino Mendes during the 19th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, SC Fervidelas's Sabino Mendes got a free kick in the 19th minute. After 20 played minutes, Arelho's Gaspar Viana shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Pedro Coimbra came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. Fernando Guerreiro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Nuno Gomes came up free with the goalie in the 31st minute, the Arelho fans jumped to their feet. Pedro Coimbra showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Heitor Pedroso in the 35th minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Sabino Mendes got free with Fernando Guerreiro in the 37th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 44th match minute, Arelho was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lucas Trindade to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Romão Amaro in the 46th minute of play forced Arelho's goalkeeper Fernando Guerreiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After the first half Arelho were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Paulo Barcelos was the one to do the kick off. Kevin Malheiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Fernando Guerreiro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Paulo Barcelos struck a weak shot in the 55th minute. Fernando Guerreiro didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SC Fervidelas. When the match clock showed 59 minutes, the score became 1-2 when Paulo Barcelos sped through Arelho's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Fernando Guerreiro. In the 65th minute the ball was on its way in behind Arelho's goalkeeper Fernando Guerreiro, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Paulo Barcelos scored 2-2 in the 78th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Fernando Guerreiro, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 85th minute, SC Fervidelas's Abílio Flores seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Abílio Flores the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of SC Fervidelas protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Abílio Flores had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 84th minute, one of SC Fervidelas:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for SC Fervidelas. When the match had been going on for 87 minutes, Arelho's Gaspar Viana got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Pedro Coimbra. A collision led to SC Fervidelas getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Diamantino Sousa hit a great ball. Arelho's Gaspar Viana got a good chance for a goal in the 91st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The SC Fervidelas supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Arelho's performance. The match ended with a win for Arelho.
