Afonso Assis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carlos Tavares in the 9th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, FC PORTO's Rui Garcia got a free kick in the 9th minute. FC PORTO's Afonso Assis played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gustavo Trindade in the 14th minute of play. When FC PORTO's Rui Garcia in the 19th minute got a chance for a shot 19th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye SC Castelaria's goalie prevented a goal. After 20 played minutes SC Castelaria got a freekick which was hit by Carlos Tavares. The crowd rose to their feet as Paulo Trindade kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Afonso Assis. That made the score 1-0 in the 27 minute of play. When FC PORTO's Rui Garcia in the 31st minute got a chance for a shot 31st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye SC Castelaria's goalie prevented a goal. Amadeu Anjos didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Rui Garcia went, in the 34th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Amadeu Anjos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jacinto Borges in the 38th minute of play. Artur Moreira hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. FC PORTO's Joaquim Torres managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Óscar Setúbal in the 41 minute of the game. FC PORTO's Inácio Assis got a good chance for a goal in the 42nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A collision led to SC Castelaria getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Carlos Tavares hit a great ball. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.
The wind increased when Rui Garcia made the kick off in the second half. The audience was convinced that Rui Garcia's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Amadeu Anjos was relentless in the 53rd minute of the game. When Paulo Trindade fell near the penalty area in the 57th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SC Castelaria's protests and gave Paulo Trindade a yellow card for diving instead. Rui Garcia received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Amadeu Anjos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Afonso Assis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Paulo Trindade in the 67th minute of play. A collision led to SC Castelaria getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Carlos Tavares hit a great ball. 77 minutes into the game, FC PORTO's Rui Garcia nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Amadeu Anjos made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-3. Amadeu Anjos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rui Garcia in the 80th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Rui Garcia in the 87th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Amadeu Anjos saved SC Castelaria from getting behind. Rui Garcia made a well adjusted shot against goal in the 89thth minute coming free in front of the goal, but Amadeu Anjos would not let the ball come through at any expense and made a nice save by the left post. After some careless play in the FC PORTO defense, Luís Matias kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Afonso Assis. The FC PORTO fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Afonso Assis should have stopped the shot. When the match was over FC PORTO could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than SC Castelaria throughout the match.
