The referee ignored Varandas's protests and gave Álvaro Fontes a yellow card for diving instead. Álvaro Fontes hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. When the match clock showed 56 minutes, the score became 0-3 when Vicente Trindade sped through SC Eja's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Vicente Pinho. After a defensive mix-up in Varandas's zone, Joel Nogueira stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Afonso Castro came out of the goal and Joel Nogueira tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 63rd minute, Alexandre Aleixo ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Afonso Castro was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-3. Varandas's Daniel Vieira got a good chance for a goal in the 70th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If José Dantas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Varandas's Armando Ramos got a free kick in the 83rd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Vieira in the 92nd minute of play forced SC Eja's goalkeeper Vicente Pinho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Varandas fans' excitement grew in the 95th match minute when Varandas's Daniel Vieira looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-4 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Varandas had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
