In the 43rd minute of the match Geraldo Brites shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Igor Moutinho showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Anselmo Trigueiro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Hermínio Ponte in the 76th minute of play forced Avinjes's goalkeeper Igor Moutinho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Egídio Cortez proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 91st minute of the match, managed to save Sport Lisboa e Benfica from getting a goal against them. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Sport Lisboa e Benfica fully deserved thier win.
