The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Cláudio Queirós fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 2nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eusébio Valente having to interfere. If Mariano Sousa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Amílcar Fernandes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 7th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Eduardo Moniz during the 8th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Codecaes getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Eduardo Moniz hit a great ball. Cláudio Queirós hit a great freekick 9 minutes into the match. After having played for 19 minutes, Tomás Vieira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Codecaes's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tomás Vieira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomás Vieira in the 21st minute of play forced SC Matos's goalkeeper Heitor Antunes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 24th minute Cláudio Queirós shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eusébio Valente saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 25th minute, Amílcar Fernandes managed to get in a good position for a shot. SC Matos's supporters rose to their feet, but Amílcar Fernandes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Heitor Antunes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomás Vieira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

When Amílcar Fernandes came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the SC Matos fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Amílcar Fernandes couldn't finish the play. In the 58th minute the ball was on its way in behind Codecaes's goalkeeper Eusébio Valente, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. SC Matos's Heitor Antunes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mariano Sousa in the 68th minute of play. Eusébio Valente showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Amílcar Fernandes in the 71st minute of the match. In the 71st match minute, SC Matos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cristiano Vaz to maneuver through the defense. In the 75th minute, Cláudio Queirós got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. SC Matos's Amílcar Fernandes got a good chance for a goal in the 77th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Heitor Antunes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomás Vieira in the 81st minute of play. In the 88th minute, Amílcar Fernandes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. With a little luck, Codecaes's Eusébio Valente got control of the ball when Cláudio Queirós tried to sneak it across the goal line. Rafael Valente hit a great freekick 97 minutes into the match. SC Matos's Heitor Antunes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mariano Sousa in the 98th minute of play. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
