Joaquim Santarém came out and tried to block the shot, but Herberto Mascarenhas slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 13th minute. In the 16th minute, Tarcísio Aveiro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Lisandro Magalhães showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Aldo Pires, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. In the 20th minute, Graciano Souto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 21stth minute of the game Josué Nascimento who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Estoi FC's Lisandro Magalhães was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 25 minutes into the game, Sporting's Josué Nascimento nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Lisandro Magalhães made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. 28 minutes into the match, Aldo Pires notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of Estoi FC's Lisandro Magalhães. Lisandro Magalhães was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Estoi FC's Herberto Mascarenhas got a good chance for a goal in the 33rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Sporting's Joaquim Santarém played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Herberto Mascarenhas in the 36th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Delfim Macieira during the 39th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The score stood at 2-2 after a close first half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Herberto Mascarenhas to strike the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Sporting booed when Estoi FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Herberto Mascarenhas didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lisandro Magalhães tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 96 played minutes Estoi FC got a freekick which was hit by Raimundo Nascimento. After 97 played minutes Estoi FC got a freekick which was hit by Tarcísio Aveiro. The corner led Sporting's Aldo Pires to fire away a dangerous shot which Lisandro Magalhães despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
