A collision led to Magrelos getting a freekick after 5 minutes play. Eusébio Monteiro hit a great ball. porto's João Borges played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Carlos Campos in the 14th minute of play. In the 16th minute, Mário Cabral got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 23 minutes into the match, Magrelos's goalkeeper Adelino Pacheco had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Marco Nunes. João Borges showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carlos Campos in the 24th minute of the match. 0-2 became the score in the 28th minute when Cristóvão Delgado elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. After some careless play in the Magrelos defense, Mário Cabral kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Adelino Pacheco. The Magrelos fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Adelino Pacheco should have stopped the shot. After 41 minutes of play, Magrelos's Cristóvão Delgado made it 2-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. João Borges was left in no man's land by his defense there!

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Mário Cabral stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 56 minutes into the game, Magrelos's Nuno Machado nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. João Borges made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-4. Carlos Campos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. João Borges didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Carlos Campos went, in the 63rd minute, to the upper right corner, 2-5 was the resulting score. Adelino Pacheco took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mário Cabral, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. porto's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Nuno Machado 71 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 2-7. porto made a substitution. Cláudio Mota replaced Alexandre Paiva. João Borges showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristóvão Delgado in the 78th minute of the match. With a little luck, porto's João Borges got control of the ball when Carlos Campos tried to sneak it across the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Mário Cabral in the 83rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Adelino Pacheco saved Magrelos from getting behind. If Mário Cabral had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Magrelos's Carlos Campos got a free kick in the 89th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marco Nunes in the 92nd minute of play forced Magrelos's goalkeeper Adelino Pacheco to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Magrelos supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Magrelos would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
