The crowd rose to their feet as Messegaes's Domingos Leão slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Alberto Moreira. That made the score 1-0 after 3 minutes of play. Horácio Estrela charged in rather forcefully in the 6th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Horácio Estrela the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Horácio Estrela hit a great freekick 6 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Oliveira Magalhães in the 10th minute of play forced Braga FC's goalkeeper Alberto Moreira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 12 minutes into the game, Domingos Leão was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Messegaes's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Braga FC the free kick. After a rather tough play, Messegaes's Domingos Leão got a free kick in the 12th minute. Daniel Leiria recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 26th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Juvenal Baía had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Braga FC booed when Messegaes was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emílio Delgado didn't get a good kick on the ball. Armindo Pinho hit a great freekick 34 minutes into the match. Braga FC's Horácio Estrela got his second yellow card of the match in the 34th minute. The referee ordered Horácio Estrela off the ground. A collision led to Braga FC getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. Horácio Estrela hit a great ball. Mariano Ferrão fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sebastião Gueifão having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Juvenal Baía's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Sebastião Gueifão was relentless in the 41st minute of the game. The wind increased when Mariano Ferrão made the kick off in the second half. 54 minutes into the match, Braga FC's goal looked a bit too open when Emílio Delgado came free, but Alberto Moreira reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sebastião Gueifão breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 72 minutes, João Teixeira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Messegaes's supporters crossed their fingers, but João Teixeira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Alberto Moreira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Oliveira Magalhães in the 73rd minute of the match. In the 75th minute, Oliveira Magalhães made a precise shot to the right of Alberto Moreira. Braga FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. Mariano Ferrão might have been able to make a better finish in the 78th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Sebastião Gueifão. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Mariano Ferrão ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 80th minute, Juvenal Baía got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. With a little luck, Messegaes's Sebastião Gueifão got control of the ball when Mariano Ferrão tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 88th minute of the match Braga FC got a corner. Messegaes's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Avelino Diegues ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Messegaes's goalie and right to Juvenal Baía. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Messegaes's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Juvenal Baía struck a weak shot in the 90th minute.
