In the 21st minute the ball was on its way in behind Gaieiras FC's goalkeeper Cristiano Sobral, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Eurico Salvado had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 26th minute, Laércio Caldeira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Through an outstanding action, after 29 minutes, Germano Quadros successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. After 30 played minutes Lagos FC got a freekick which was hit by Emanuel Guterres. Dimas Guarda kicked well hit freekick during the 32nd minute of the match. After 34 played minutes Gaieiras FC got a freekick which was hit by Eurico Salvado. Gaieiras FC's Cristiano Sobral played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by André Cruz in the 37th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 38th minute, André Cruz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Lagos FC's supporters rose to their feet, but André Cruz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Cristiano Sobral breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Heitor Santos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Germano Quadros made an important save on a dangerous shot by Eurico Salvado in the 45th minute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

After 73 minutes, Saúl Pinto mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Gaieiras FC and the Lagos FC players grew even worse after the yellow card.
