Herberto Madruga's late challenge caught a FC Montemor's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Herberto Madruga helped the player get up and apologised. Vicente Matos kicked well hit freekick during the 24th minute of the match. Gualter Carvalho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Adelino Queirós tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 34 minutes into the match, Rui Azeredo notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of Tavilhao's Armindo Aragão. Armindo Aragão was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. FC Montemor's Adelino Queirós played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alexandre Carreira in the 38th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Tavilhao's zone, Rui Azeredo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Armindo Aragão came out of the goal and Rui Azeredo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Alexandre Carreira was the one to do the kick off. In the 53rd minute of the match Mário Taveira shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Armindo Aragão showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Rui Roriz charged in rather forcefully in the 54th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. In the 60th minute, Gualter Carvalho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Rui Azeredo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of FC Montemor booed when Tavilhao was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Caio Azenha didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rui Azeredo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 68th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 72 minutes into the match, Tavilhao's goalkeeper Armindo Aragão had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rui Azeredo. Rui Azeredo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Rui Azeredo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Tavilhao's Armindo Aragão got control of the ball when Egídio Damásio tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 93 minutes of play, FC Montemor's Albertino Couto made it 1-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Armindo Aragão was left in no man's land by his defense there! Armindo Aragão made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Albertino Couto in the 98th minute of play. Albertino Couto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 99th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Armindo Aragão having to interfere. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. FC Montemor had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
