The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. If Xavier Alves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 21 minutes into the game, Benedito Pimentel was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Canhas's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave SC Penelas the free kick. After 21 played minutes Canhas got a freekick which was hit by Benedito Pimentel. André Gonçalves succeeded in the game's 24th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 0-1. In the 30th minute Xavier Alves shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Angélico Lage saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 32nd minute the ball was on its way in behind SC Penelas's goalkeeper Rui Gomes, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Mauro Câmara blasted a shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rui Gomes having to make a save. André Gonçalves recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 41st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 46th minute Mauro Câmara shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rui Gomes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Mauro Câmara to strike the kick off in the second half. Hermes Roriz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rui Gomes having to interfere.
