The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 6 minutes into the match, FC Formiga's goalkeeper Afonso Cardoso had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Juliano Nóbrega. Afonso Cardoso didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Alfredo Queirós went, in the 15th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Silvestre Alvarenga kicked well hit freekick during the 17th minute of the match. The supporters of SC Fontelas booed when FC Formiga was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Manuel Brito didn't get a good kick on the ball. Afonso Cardoso made an important save on a dangerous shot by Juliano Nóbrega in the 29th minute. Afonso Cardoso was out of position in the 30 minute of play, and António Bentes capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. António Bentes really showed his touch with that goal: 3-0. SC Fontelas's Carlos Simões managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Nuno Bessa in the 34 minute of the game. António Bentes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Afonso Cardoso having to interfere. Manuel Brito sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. FC Formiga's Afonso Cardoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by António Bentes in the 42nd minute of play. When Silvestre Alvarenga fell near the penalty area in the 47th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SC Fontelas's protests and gave Silvestre Alvarenga a yellow card for diving instead. Silvestre Alvarenga hit a great freekick 48 minutes into the match.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell António Bentes to make the kick off. After a rather tough play, FC Formiga's Manuel Brito got a free kick in the 54th minute. António Bentes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Afonso Cardoso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Nuno Bessa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Adão Pimentel having to interfere. António Rodrigues lost his temper 65 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. In the 64th minute, one of FC Formiga:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for FC Formiga. In the 69th minute, Carlos Simões hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Afonso Cardoso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mauro Alcântara in the 78th minute of the match. If Nuno Bessa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 87th minute, Manuel Brito ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Adão Pimentel was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-1. Manuel Brito hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. António Bentes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Afonso Cardoso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Adão Pimentel made an important save on a dangerous shot by António Gaspar in the 99th minute. The SC Fontelas support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
