After 24 minutes, Egídio Lucena mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Mirao and the Operário F.C players grew even worse after the yellow card. With a little luck, Operário F.C's Lúcio Quintas got control of the ball when Bernardo Brochado tried to sneak it across the goal line. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Serafim Estrada to make the kick off. In the 52nd minute Armindo Vasconcelos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lúcio Quintas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Bernardo Brochado had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rui Durães walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. In the 81st minute, Rodrigo Melo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Armindo Vasconcelos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute.
