The referee ignored SC Carvao's protests and gave Aparício Ferrão a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of SC Apilata booed when SC Carvao was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Aparício Ferrão didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lúcio Fontoura stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jacinto Bessa's shot from short distance in the 7th minute. In the 11th minute, Rui Martins hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 11th minute of the match Herberto Maciel shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Carlos Pinheiro showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Lúcio Fontoura acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 19th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Eduardo Maia. If Olívio Damásio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Olívio Damásio came up free with the goalie in the 28th minute, the SC Carvao fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Olívio Damásio couldn't finish the play. Carlos Pinheiro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paulo Pessoa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Paulo Pessoa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. SC Apilata's Carlos Pinheiro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paulo Pessoa in the 40th minute of play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

After 51 minutes of play SC Carvao's Sérgio Ferro was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. In the 52nd match minute, SC Carvao was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sérgio Ferro to maneuver through the defense. Miguel Baptista sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Olívio Damásio's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 61stth minute, Carlos Pinheiro skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. 63 minutes into the game, Miguel Baptista cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0.
