The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience was convinced that Nuno Azevedo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Durval Aguiar was relentless in the 5th minute of the game. Nuno Azevedo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Durval Aguiar read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 6th minute of play. If Paulo Cruz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 11th minute, Nélson Lustosa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 17 minutes into the match, Hugo Fiúza dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Pedro Monteiro, 1-1. In the 26th minute, Manuel Amorim hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some careless play in the SL Benfica defense, Sérgio Monteiro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Durval Aguiar. The SL Benfica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Durval Aguiar should have stopped the shot. Pedro Monteiro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Albertino Araújo in the 37th minute of the match. Durval Aguiar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nuno Azevedo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 46th minute, José Guarda hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Nuno Azevedo to strike the kick off in the second half. After some careless play in the Porto Academia Juniores defense, Albertino Araújo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Pedro Monteiro. The Porto Academia Juniores fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Pedro Monteiro should have stopped the shot. 57 minutes into the match, Daniel Macena notched a goal, 3-2, to the right of Porto Academia Juniores's Pedro Monteiro. Pedro Monteiro was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When José Guarda came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the Porto Academia Juniores fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that José Guarda couldn't finish the play. With a little luck, SL Benfica's Durval Aguiar got control of the ball when Nuno Azevedo tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 80th minute, Nuno Azevedo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 82 minutes into the match, Porto Academia Juniores's goal looked a bit too open when Nélson Lustosa came free, but Pedro Monteiro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Daniel Macena had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 86th minute, Nélson Lustosa left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The SL Benfica fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-2. Pedro Monteiro came out of the goal in the 91st minute to try and stop a shot by SL Benfica's Daniel Macena. But to his dismay, Daniel Macena quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 5-2. Daniel Macena sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Porto Academia Juniores's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
