Lúcio Quaresma started the match with the kick off. 7 minutes into the match, João Pires had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Vítor Seixas. Pavia FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that João Pires was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Augusto Cabral received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Vítor Seixas tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 17 minutes, Emílio Matos mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Loural and the Pavia FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 17th match minute, Loural was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Emílio Matos to maneuver through the defense. Pavia FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Roberto Delgado was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Lúcio Quaresma sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. If Lúcio Quaresma had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Augusto Cabral was the one to do the kick off.
