When David Passos came up free with the goalie in the 2nd minute, the Sporting fans jumped to their feet. Cristiano Branco stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Zacarias Mesquita's shot from short distance in the 13th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zacarias Mesquita in the 14th minute of play forced Formigais's goalkeeper Cristiano Branco to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 19th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sporting's goalkeeper Jesualdo Cesário, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. David Passos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience was convinced that Tiago Marques's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jesualdo Cesário was relentless in the 23rd minute of the game. In the 45th minute Zacarias Mesquita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cristiano Branco saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Zacarias Mesquita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Zacarias Mesquita to strike the kick off in the second half. Zacarias Mesquita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. David Passos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Cristiano Branco tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The Formigais fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Cristiano Branco should have stopped the shot. Alexandrino Caiado kicked well hit freekick during the 62nd minute of the match. The supporters of Formigais booed when Sporting was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Máximo Lima didn't get a good kick on the ball. With his leg Cristiano Branco managed to avoid a goal in the 69thth minute, when Sporting's David Passos fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. David Passos struck a weak shot in the 73rd minute. Cristiano Branco didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sporting. In the 79th minute, David Passos left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Sporting fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. The crowd rose to their feet as Zacarias Mesquita kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Cristiano Branco. That made the score 0-3 in the 82 minute of play. David Passos could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 88th minute of the match, but Cristiano Branco made a huge save. After 88 played minutes Sporting got a freekick which was hit by Telmo Palha.
