The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. If Hermenegildo Álvares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 3rd minute. The supporters of Têlo da Maia booed when Cabanes was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Manuel Gomes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Gregório Roriz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Alfredo Pinto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 31st minute of the match Armindo Queirós sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but João Mourão skillfully saved the ball. Manuel Salgueiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Alfredo Pinto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Têlo da Maia getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. Hermes Godinho hit a great ball. In the 42nd minute, Manuel Salgueiro fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Alfredo Pinto, passed just outside the right post. After a defensive mix-up in Cabanes's zone, Gregório Roriz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alfredo Pinto came out of the goal and Gregório Roriz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Manuel Salgueiro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 45th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 47 played minutes Têlo da Maia got a freekick which was hit by Hermes Godinho.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Manuel Salgueiro stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Manuel Salgueiro in the 53rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Alfredo Pinto saved Cabanes from getting behind. Gregório Roriz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Manuel Salgueiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Cabanes booed when Têlo da Maia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hermes Godinho didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 79 minutes, Lucas Neto managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cabanes's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lucas Neto was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Lucas Neto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without João Mourão having to interfere. Alfredo Pinto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gregório Roriz in the 86th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Manuel Salgueiro in the 88th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Alfredo Pinto prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Gregório Roriz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Manuel Salgueiro struck a weak shot in the 97th minute. Alfredo Pinto didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Têlo da Maia. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Têlo da Maia fully deserved thier win.
