Rui Sales recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 35th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Tomé Horta made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Normando Parente in the 38th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alexandre Figueiredo in the 42nd minute of play forced Gaita's goalkeeper Celso Caires to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Alexandre Figueiredo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 53 played minutes Gaita got a freekick which was hit by Fabiano Damásio. In the 56th minute Cláudio Patrício shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Celso Caires saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
